Morphology
Annual legume, medium to large size (40_80 cm). Stems are upright, cylindrical, solid and very hairy. Leaves are trifoliate, each leaflet hairy, 8-16 mm across, with a truncated or bilobed apex. The inflorescence is in the shape of elongated heads, terminal position, on elongated spikes, bearing 70-120 deep red flowers (warning, there are also varieties with white flowers). Pods contain a light yellow oval seed, TKW is 3.5g This is a diploid species, partially cross-pollinated with 2n = 14.
